ABOUT ME

Ignasi torrent

My name is Ignasi Torrent, and I come from Saldet, a small village in Alt Empordà, Catalonia. I hold a PhD in International Relations and a Diploma in Physics. I am currently an Associate Professor of International Relations at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). I also teach at the Barcelona Institute for International Studies (IBEI). My research lies at the intersection of International Relations, contemporary critical thought and the philosophy of science. Over the past decade, I have examined a range of pressing global issues from a critical perspective, including peacebuilding in post-conflict contexts, the theoretical and practical challenges of the Anthropocene and the relationship between modern science, particularly physics, and the violent constitution of world politics through logics of exclusion and subordination. Over the past several years, I have pursued my academic career at numerous universities and research centres in Catalonia, Germany and the United Kingdom, while also conducting fieldwork in the Balkans, the Basque Country, Sierra Leone and at the UN Headquarters in New York. I have published the results of my research in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including Security Dialogue, Review of International Studies and International Political Sociology, among others. In 2021, I published my first book, Entangled Peace, with Rowman & Littlefield. I currently serve on the Editorial Board of Peacebuilding, one of the leading international journals in the field of critical peace, conflict and security studies. In addition, I regularly collaborate with CCCB Lab from the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona and the Institut d’Humanitats de Barcelona.
